General Information

Mokopane is located in the Waterberg Region of the Limpopo Province, South Africa.  The town was established in 1852 by the Voortrekkers who named it Potgietersrus after their leader, Piet Potgieter.  In 2003 the name was changed to Mokopane in honour of the local chief Makapan.

Mokopane is en-route to Botswana, Zimbabwe and the Kruger National Park and is also only two hours from Gauteng.  This area is one of South Africa's richest agricultural areas in the production of wheat, tobacco, cotton, beef, maize, peanuts and citrus fruit.  Here you will find one of the largest citrus farms in the southern hemisphere, Zebediela Citrus Estate.

There is a wide variety of accommodation options available in Mokopane from guest houses, bed and breakfasts to self-catering units.  Please see the accommodation directory for more information.

Being a fast growing town, Mokopane offers a selection of outdoor activities‚Äč, from hiking and camping to the more adventurous of 4x4 trailing.  Other things to do are birding, angling and game viewing.

Mokopane also has a good selection of art galleries, antique shops and shopping centres to keep tourists entertained, along with a wide choice of restaurants.
